When “Purity Talks” Hide Bias
- Posted on February 17, 2026
In many Black churches, young women hear constant messages about waiting, virginity, and avoiding early pregnancy. But here’s the thing—this isn’t just about faith. It’s subtle racial profiling. It assumes we’ll fail, that we’re more likely to get pregnant early or make “wrong” choices. Instead of compassion, these messages can feel judgmental, shaming, and rooted in stereotypes about Black girls—especially darker-skinned women. Faith should guide, not assume or stigmatize.
