The idea that all men always want sex and are perpetually ready for it is a myth rooted more in fear-based teaching than truth. I once went to a man’s house fully expecting to lose my virginity. We had talked about sex beforehand, and I believed the narrative I had been taught—that men would never hesitate. But when the moment came, he was visibly nervous and uncomfortable. He was the one who stopped everything. He reminded me that we were both Christians, said we shouldn’t do it because we weren’t married, and told me I deserved to have sex when I was ready and with someone I loved. That moment shattered the lie I had been taught about men, and it revealed how oversimplified and dishonest the church & society’s messaging around sex truly is.
