Often in the church, women are told and made to believe how much of a stumbling block and temptation their bodies are to men, these messages are repeated and women are warned “don’t wear this” “cover up” “men will be men” “men will look” etc when these type of messages are repeated over and over in one’s head it can cause great harm, and erode self esteem, outside of church a woman may still feel impacted by these messages and may really believe her body is a problem every where she goes and she may start to feel uncomfortable in her own body, she may feel guilty for anything she wears, she may even develop a eating disorder or exercise relentlessly to try to get rid of her natural curves, body shaming isn’t just telling someone that they’re too fat or too skinny, it’s also constantly shaming someone for having curves, having a nice body, wearing stuff that accentuates their curves etc and making a women believe her body is a sin, the female body isn’t sinful, God created it and it’s not just for sexual purposes either, I remember at a women’s church event that I attended before, the speaker had said your worth isn’t in your chest size, granted that’s true, but if a woman has a nice set of breasts why should she be shamed and made to feel guilty, hmm 🧐 ultimately breasts aren’t strictly for sexual purposes, they’re also for breastfeeding if a woman has a baby, a woman’s vagina isn’t only used for sex it’s used for pushing out a baby/giving birth and even if a woman has big hips, they’re also useful for carrying a pregnancy and childbirth, again God created all this for a purpose, not as a temptation or stumbling block, shaming a woman for her body is ultimately saying God made a mistake which he makes no mistakes!
