Personal Responsibility vs. Other People’s Sins
I’ve heard some feedback about the chapter in my book that deals with rape—that it might “make people want to sin sexually.” Here’s the truth: even if someone struggles after reading it, that’s on them—not on me.
The Bible is very clear that each person is accountable for their own actions. Galatians 6:5 reminds us, “For each will have to bear their own load.” Even the verses about cutting off a hand that causes you to sin (Matthew 5:30, Mark 9:43) are not about blaming others—they’re about taking radical, personal steps to avoid sin.
No one else’s actions—or my words—can make someone sin unless they choose to. My responsibility as a writer is to share truth, tell stories, and expose realities. How someone responds to that truth is on them.
Avoiding hard topics because someone might stumble doesn’t help anyone. It leaves people unprepared to face real-life struggles. Teaching accountability, discernment, and responsibility is far more powerful than silencing difficult conversations.
We are accountable for our own choices. Always.
