Some parents think not letting kids go anywhere is a good method of protecting them, granted yes kids shouldn’t go any and everywhere, but kids still need communication, language and the ability to trust their own judgment and recognize when their boundaries are being crossed, for instance a 5 year old I wouldn’t let go certain places, because that small a kid may cannot communicate or recognize boundaries being crossed, unless they have a older sibling with them who can speak for them, guide them etc, but a older kid, say 10-12 definitely can speak up more, recognize boundaries being crossed and use their own judgement etc a older kid could have a cell phone to call their parent if they recognize a situation is getting dangerous etc a smaller kid may not know how to use a cell phone effectively again unless they have a older sibling who can do it for them!
