Obedience Over Good Intentions: A Lesson From $10,000

  • Posted on March 15, 2026

At a women’s conference today, one question really stood out: “What would you do if you had $10,000?”

Many answers were inspiring: “I would serve others,” “I’d give to charity,” “I’d help someone in need.” And there’s nothing wrong with that. Acts of service are beautiful, and generosity reflects God’s love.

But here’s the subtle truth that often gets missed: God isn’t ultimately impressed by our good deeds. What truly matters to Him is obedience—doing what He specifically calls us to do. You could take that $10,000 and pour it into a “good” act, like starting a daycare or giving to a ministry, but if it’s not His direction, your efforts could fail. You could end up in debt, go bankrupt, or see your plans collapse—not because God is punishing you, but because wisdom and obedience are part of stewardship.

God’s blessings—whether it’s an inheritance, a bonus, or an unexpected gift—aren’t just opportunities to look generous. They’re tests of faithfulness and discernment. How we steward what He entrusts to us shows the condition of our heart more than the size of our good deeds.

The takeaway? Before you act, ask: “Is this what God is actually calling me to do?” Use wisdom. Align your intentions with His guidance. Generosity without discernment can be wasted, but obedience with faith and wisdom honors God in ways far beyond any outwardly impressive act.

It’s not about how much we give, but how faithfully we follow His call, even in the small and the practical.
