Going through trauma response after rape is a bit similar to a break up…listen! After a breakup an individual often struggles mentally and emotionally, shock, it’s hard to sleep, eat, etc denial, guilt, shame, feeling like you love the person though they weren’t good for you, having a hard time moving forward, depression, anxiety and even suicidal thoughts, difficulty trusting others, getting into more unhealthy relationships/picking the same kind of people again, thinking unhealthy relationships are normal. Engaging in risky behaviors to cope with the pain, minimizing the pain, going back and forth, eventually accepting what happened, eventually healing and eventually moving on! This is also how a trauma response after rape often goes too, for myself I was definitely in shock, denial, deemed what happened as love and normal, denied how harmful my rapist was, felt like it was my fault, (guilt) shame, fear, not wanting anyone to know or find out, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts etc, more unhealthy relationships/ picking the same kind of people, risky behaviors to cope, clubbing and more! Difficulty moving forward. Eventually one day accepting the truth and eventually healing and finally moving forward Wow!
