Constant thought of miscarriage after rape

  • Posted on November 1, 2025

constant thoughts about miscarriage after being raped are something some survivors experience. It’s not strange or irrational; it’s a way trauma can live in your body and mind. Here’s what may be happening underneath:

  1. Your mind is replaying the fear of pregnancy.
After rape, the possibility of pregnancy can feel terrifying. Even if it never happened, your brain might stay “stuck” on that fear as a way of trying to regain control — replaying what if I was pregnant? what if I lost it?
  2. It becomes linked to loss and violation.
Rape is a profound loss of safety and control. Thoughts about miscarriage — even imagined ones — can symbolically represent that loss. Your mind might be processing grief, not just about pregnancy, but about what was taken from you.
  3. Trauma repetition.
Intrusive or recurring thoughts are common in PTSD. The brain replays the most distressing possibilities or images because it’s trying (unsuccessfully) to make sense of what happened.
  4. Body memory and hormonal effects.
Stress hormones and trauma can cause body sensations (like cramps, nausea, breast tenderness) that remind you of pregnancy or miscarriage, reinforcing those thoughts.

It’s your brain’s way of saying: something happened that deeply hurt me, and I don’t know how to put it down yet.
