Is a Christian really not supposed to get a tattoo? The truth: Many people have long wrestled with this question, some even thought to have found evidence regarding this matter, it’s a scripture in Leviticus 19:28 which clearly states against making any cuttings in one’s flesh for the dead or printing any tattoo marks on one’s body. However who was God talking to during this time and what did it mean during that time? Firstly, in that scripture God was talking to ancient Israel and he was not talking about the tattoos we see today, that was a much different time and people’s intentions were different, God in this scripture specifically said making cuttings on one’s bodies for the dead was wrong, and printing any tattoo marks upon one’s body, the scripture ends with saying I am the lord, during those times many people heavily did things to their bodies for rituals especially for the dead, religious practices, false gods, etc now with all that being said , it’s up to a individual as a believer to live up to their own convictions on whether or not to get a tattoo, it’s a few ways to judge this decision, firstly some may decide against it for professional reasons such as work, some jobs are accepting of tattoos now, but many still are not and some people just prefer to stay professional as possible which is very understandable, next tattoos are permanent, so ask yourself if you’re okay with a permanent word, design on you forever, say especially if you get something and regret the design later on, though in some cases I’ve heard a tattoo can be removed or even covered, but ultimately that’s lots of work and costly etc also skin changes over the years are another reason I’ve heard people advise against tattoos, obviously as we age our skin changes, wrinkles, sagging etc so that may affect the tattoo later on in life, some people are afraid of needles which is also why they avoid tattoos, some may have sensitive skin, which would be a wise reason to avoid tattoos completely, however tattoos can be beneficial in many ways, a form of art and self expression, also for a believer a eye catching tattoo is bound to turn heads and stop people and even strike up a conversation, you could end up making a new friend and getting close and eventually that person ends up following you to church, also as a believer a tattoo could be a way to represent your faith in a non conventional way, say if you have a tattoo that represents God, faith, love etc also as a tatted believer you may reach more people overall because you have a more “down to earth look” people may feel more comfortable and relatable talking to you about God vs someone who looks more traditional, also you might be the only Bible someone reads, so be wise in what you get tatted on your body, of course a believer shouldn’t have tattoos that go against God, nothing that represents evil, you don’t have to be tatted up with full on scriptures per say, like for myself, I have 2 scriptures tatted on me, but all my other tattoos are just cute stuff representing love, life, fun etc I mentioned before how I started getting tatted after my rape, that was my way of reclaiming my body and feeling beautiful again after what happened, so my tattoos are ultimately a testimony of me overcoming! God knew my intentions when I got all my tattoos, so when making a decision to get a tattoo, examine your intentions. We are to glorify God in all we do, me getting tatted after my rape was a way of me giving God glory, by not harming my body through cutting, gun shot wounds etc, but adding more beauty and life on me, amen! Ironically I got like 32-33 tattoos in total which again 32-33 is age Jesus finished his work on the cross! Hmm 🤔 wow 🤩
