Criticism of my book taught me something I didn’t fully see before:

There’s nothing wrong with valuing other people’s opinions. In fact, it can be helpful. But the problem starts when those opinions begin to control your judgment, limit your growth, or replace your own voice.
Taking someone’s opinion into consideration should always be a choice—not something driven by fear, guilt, or pressure.
It’s like asking, “Should I wear red or blue?”
A friend might say, “You look good in blue. I wouldn’t wear red, but it might look good on you.”
If you choose blue because it genuinely feels right to you—that’s influence.
If you choose blue just because they said so—that’s control.
The difference is simple:
One allows you to stay true to yourself.
The other slowly takes you away from yourself.
Listen, consider, reflect—but always leave room for your own voice to lead.
