We Don’t Serve a Controlling God

I’ve been thinking a lot about what it really means to serve God, and one thing that keeps coming up for me is this: we don’t serve a controlling God. That might sound silly, but it’s actually huge. It shows just how good He is and what true love really looks like. True love doesn’t control. True love doesn’t chase. True love allows freedom.
I think about all God has me doing now, all the ways He’s working in my life, and I can’t help but think about the past. When it comes to all the things He has me doing now, honestly, I wasn’t mature enough spiritually to handle these things back then. If He had revealed all of that to me at the time, I wouldn’t have been ready. I wouldn’t have been in agreement with Him—I was too focused on my own plans. Which is why God doesn’t even tell us everything right away, because He knows when and if we will ultimately be receptive!
God didn’t force His plans onto me. He allowed me the space to grow, to learn, to surrender when I was truly ready. And when that surrender came, it wasn’t out of fear or pressure—it was out of understanding, trust, and love. That moment of surrender? Wow. It’s powerful. It’s life-changing.
God’s timing is perfect because He never rushes us. He never manipulates or controls. He waits, patiently, for us to reach the place where our hearts can fully align with His. That’s what makes His love so different. That’s what makes it so freeing.
We don’t serve a controlling God. We serve a God who waits. A God who guides. A God who loves enough to let us grow into His plan at the right time. And when we finally surrender? That’s when we see just how perfect and good His love really is.
